Description of Work Unit

Medical Services

The Medical Clinic at the CSU Health Network provides acute and chronic care to CSU students by appointments and on a walk-in basis for urgent concerns. Primary care physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners care for students, with emphasis on preventive care, education, and continuity. The medical staff are supported by a full range of laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, physical therapy, psychiatry, optometry, and nutrition services on site, behavioral health and integrated care with counseling staff enhances the treatment of students with behavioral health concerns. Minor procedures are performed in the clinic. The Medical Clinic provides services between the hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday-Friday, providing attractive work schedules for staff.

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant works independently in the Acute and Primary Care clinics at Colorado State University Health Network’s campus clinic, providing advanced primary healthcare that consists of assessment, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment (including medication management) for acute, chronic, and preventive medical, reproductive and/or psychiatric health issues.

This position forms collaborative relationships with other practitioners including medical, behavioral health, counseling, dental, optometry, psychiatric, physical therapy, and pharmacy providers in a team approach to enhance healthcare delivery for students. The position may provide consultation to other medical and counseling providers.

The Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant works 32-40 hours per week, 12-months per year, between the hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday, and is benefits eligible. The full-time annualized salary will be prorated based upon a 32-40 hours per week work schedule.

The Physician reports directly to the Associate Medical Director.

Required Job Qualifications

Education/License/Certification

  • Possession of a Masters level degree as an Advanced Practice Nurse OR Physician Assistant

  • National certification as an Adult, Family or Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner OR as a Physician Assistant

  • Possession of a current Colorado Nursing License or license as a Physician Assistant, or the ability to obtain by start date

  • Possession of a current DEA number for authorization of prescriptive privileges, or the ability to obtain by start date

  • If a Nurse Practitioner, possession of Colorado Nurse Practitioner prescriptive Authority, or the ability to obtain by start date

  • Current certification in Basic Life Support ( BLS ), or ability to obtain by state date

Experience

  • One year working as a Nurse Practitioner OR Physician Assistant in a primary care setting

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Knowledge of principles and methods of college health, including diagnosis and treatment of physical/mental illnesses related to primary care, acute care, and reproductive health. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Care of young adult / college age population.

  • Care of chronic primary care medical conditions such as diabetes and thyroid disorder.

  • Care of acute medical conditions such as minor injuries (concussions, sprains, fractures, etc) and acute illnesses (bronchitis, ear infections, UTI , skin infections, etc) with the ability to triage acute complaints of potentially severe illnesses.

  • A wide range of college-specific primary care needs such as management of gender affirming care, depression, anxiety, ADHD , contraception, STIs, PrEP, etc.

  • Knowledge and skills associated with college health related medical procedures, including but not limited to:

  • Incision and drainage

  • IUD insertion and removal

  • Laceration repair

  • Nexplanon insertion and removal

  • Toenail removals

  • Knowledge and experience working with diverse populations, including students with diverse religious/spiritual beliefs; racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds; diverse sexual orientations and gender identities

  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with policies of CSU Health Network, Colorado State University, state, federal and HIPPA requirements
