Description of Work Unit

The Colorado State University Libraries is the heart of learning and research on campus, connecting curious minds to vital information and knowledge. The library system includes a primary library, Morgan Library, and a branch library in CSU’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The Libraries’ mission is to curate inclusive collections and provide equitable access to materials and services critical to student success, research brilliance and community engagement. The Libraries employs approximately 80 faculty and staff and 100 student employees who collaborate to meet the informational needs of users in the Libraries’ physical and digital spaces.

Position Summary

The CSU Libraries welcomes applications for the position of Library Assessment Research Analyst. We invite you to join a dynamic, future-oriented library team that is interested in using data to make better decisions and share our story with campus. The individual in this position will coordinate and conduct assessment activities across library units and participate in initiatives that measure and communicate the Libraries’ effectiveness, impact and value to internal and external constituents.

The Library Assessment Research Analyst will be skilled at conducting qualitative and quantitative analyses and can translate findings into clear language that creates compelling narratives. This individual will work with employees throughout the library to identify data needs, use data to analyze systems and services in support of the Libraries’ mission and goals, and build a culture of assessment within the organization.

This position reports to the Associate Dean for User Services and Assessment and will work closely with library leadership to define key performance indicators for library effectiveness and impact. The analyst will also partner with other campus units to support university and external data reporting including accreditation requirements, library member association statistics, and more.

Required Job Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree by the time of hire.

  • Quantitative and qualitative skills, including demonstrated experience with assessment tools and strategies.

  • Demonstrated experience with data visualization tools for accurate data representation.

  • Demonstrated ability to use data sources and insights to tell compelling stories.

  • Proven ability to develop data-rich reports that are easily understood by various stakeholders.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA -accredited institution, or master’s degree in social sciences, education, applied statistics, economics, or another relevant field.

  • Experience with assessment in libraries and/or higher education.

  • Experience managing projects and/or multiple priorities and successfully meeting deadlines.

  • Experience working collaboratively to achieve successful outcomes.

  • Understanding of best practices for efficient and sustainable data collection, management, and storage.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice and how they relate to the mission of the CSU Libraries.

  • Plans, develops, and implements assessment programs at the CSU Libraries in support of the Libraries’ mission and strategic goals. Coordinates data collection across units for annual reporting and operational statistics and serves as the main point of contact for ARL , ACRL , IPEDS , and university data submissions. Communicates findings, data and reports to internal and external audiences.

  • Uses appropriate tools and solutions, applies assessment methods, and designs assessment instruments including surveys, interviews, and other data collection methods. Maintains an understanding of best practices, along with purpose and value of assessment in an academic environment and connects data to relevant library and university priorities and goals.

  • Uses best practices for efficient and sustainable data collection, management and storage, in line with university policies. Delivers evidence and data analysis to fuel better decision making in support of library initiatives.

  • Works collaboratively with library and campus partners and with professional library and higher education organizations to gather, analyze, and report relevant data. Works with library administration and leadership to help tell the story of the CSU Libraries through relevant data. Determines key collaborative partners for assessment, including offices responsible for institutional research, assessment, learning analytics, and student success and support.

  • Builds capacity for assessment in the library through training and mentoring staff and acts as a contact for support on assessment projects to provide technical expertise.
