Veterinary Health System ( VHS )

Veterinary Teaching Hospital ( VTH )

At the CSU VTH , we exist to educate the next generation of veterinarians by providing exceptional veterinary care and service to the community every day. The Cost Analysis and Data Retrieval Specialist works within the Director’s Office business unit and reports to the Financial Coordinator. Our Director’s Office business unit provides administration and direction for the Veterinary Teaching Hospital; ensures quality clinical service for our veterinary medicine students, to the general public, referring veterinarians and research endeavors. This unit supports the teaching environment and facility needs, and is responsible for the management of people, customer service, business/clinical operations, and financial outcomes.

Position Summary

The Cost Analysis and Data Retrieval Specialist position supports hospital and VHS leadership in providing data retrieval and report writing, cost and market analysis support and other miscellaneous accounting duties. Job requires a high level of accuracy, ability to handle multiple competing deadlines and the aptitude to mine data from different sources into cohesive reports and maintain accurate excel workbooks.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or related field plus 1 year experience in database mining & reporting and/or cost analysis. Associates degree in accounting or related field plus 3 years experience in database mining and/or cost analysis may substitute.

  • Microsoft Office experience; Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams etc. with strong emphasis on Excel

  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Experience working with Microsoft Power BI or Webfocus data mining/reporting tools.

  • Experience with Kuali financial system.

  • Experience performing market pricing analysis.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work effectively at all levels of an organization both independently and as a team member.

  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated success coordinating multiple projects with attention to detail.

  • Accounting or Data Mining experience within a Veterinary or Hospital setting.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Working with WebFocus, StringSoft and Power BI, position will develop new reports or gather data via existing reports to supply a wide array of information to a variety of people, including VTH and VHS Leadership, departments and individuals.

  • Position will need to become intricately knowledgeable about all the systems and the myriad of data fields available to ensure accurate data is being pulled in order to facilitate decision making.

  • The work will also include taking existing reports in WebFocus and recreating them in Power BI as our new reporting tool.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Using established Excel workbooks and StringSoft procedures list, position will be responsible for updating cost analysis sheets for each specialty service in the hospital on an ongoing basis.

  • This includes calculating item costs, updating labor/equipment/overhead costs, ensuring all applicable procedures are included and determining a total cost for each procedure.

  • Once costs are updated, position will work with services to gather outside market pricing on procedures in order to facilitate final discussions on pricing updates.

  • Once new pricing is approved, this position updates the pricing in StringSoft manually or works with the database manager to facilitate testing and loading of large amounts of data.

  • Using Kuali financial system, position will process document approvals and train as backup for purchasing and accounts payable duties.

  • Position will also be responsible for special projects such as cost testing inventory invoices, updating equipment reserve spreadsheet, and other miscellaneous duties as needed.
